Welcome to Darrell's AIDS Walk Page
In 1991, I was 14 and my childhood friend Leon passed away from AIDS at 13 years old - just 4 years after my maternal grandfather also passed away from AIDS in 1987 after open heart surgery.
First touched by the AIDS epidemic at age 9, many years before I'd ever come out as a gay man, I've tried to do my part to bring an end to this disease.
Many years later, I am proud to work at Desert AIDS Project - arguably the most comprehensive AIDS organization in the nation - where we not only care for 4,200 current people living with HIV but are strategically working to bring an end to new infections.
We can't do it alone, so I hope you'll help. I've set an aggressive fundraising goal this year and will certinaly need your support to help me reach it.
Please be as generous as you can!
Now in its 31st year, the Desert AIDS Walk is a grassroots community event supporting HIV and AIDS services, prevention and advocacy at Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.). Desert AIDS Walk has made it possible for us to continue serving the clients of Desert AIDS Project with an unparalleled range of services: medical and dental care; medications; food, housing, and transportation assistance; mental health counseling; a Community Center with a variety of educational and social activities, including skills-for-living and back-to-work training; and so much more – all under one roof!!
Simultaneously, we are working harder than ever, to help bring about an end to further HIV infection here in our community as the lead agency on tGet Tested Coachella Valley.
An international study, hailed by the journal Science as the “2011 Breakthrough of the Year,” has proven it: If an individual who is HIV positive takes the right medications, he or she is 96% less likely to pass the virus to others.
With each step we take and each dollar we raise, we can test more people, bring more people who are HIV positive into care, and move one step closer to an "AIDS free generation".
Every dollar counts so join my fundraising efforts today! Just click on the make a donation button now! Thank you for your donation to my fundraising page.
