Ruth Hardy Park, Palm Springs
On Saturday, October 20th, I will be one of over 2,000 walkers and 100 volunteers who will come together from across the Coachella Valley to participate in the 31st annual Desert AIDS Walk. People of all ages, races and backgrounds come together each year in a massive, powerful, and inspiring demonstration of compassion and action to raise funds for Desert AIDS Project (D.A.P.), a federally qualified healthcare center that more than 10,000 of our neighbors will call their healthcare home by 2020.
The Desert AIDS Walk has made it possible for D.A.P. to "Care for Everyone," including those below the federal poverty line who are not affected by HIV. Their patients and clients receive a broad range of services:
- Medical and Dental Care
- Transportation Assistance
- Behavioral Health Counseling
- A community center providing 20 support services including skills-for-living and return-to-work training and much more.
The Desert AIDS Project uses the roadmap developed during the AIDS crisis to provide this "Care for Everyone." Today, almost half of the patients and clients at D.A.P. do not live with HIV. Many are your neighbors who live 200 percent below the federal poverty level and need access to compassionate and comprehensive healthcare.
Please join the FUNdraising efforts today, register to walk, and recruit your friends. Please donate now and you will make a difference in the lives of thousands of our neighbors who benefit from the medical, dental, counseling, work training, and housing assistance provided by the D.A.P.
